Rumberger, Kirk & Caldwell Promotes Three to Partner
ORLANDO, FL – Rumberger, Kirk & Caldwell is proud to announce that attorneys Eric McAliley, Candy Messersmith and Sally Murray have been named partner.
McAliley, who joined the firm in 1999, primarily practices commercial litigation with a focus on securities litigation and construction litigation. He also practices professional liability, defending accountants and real estate and insurance agents and brokers.
“In his time at our firm, Eric has emerged as a leader among his peers,” said Administrative Partner Scott Sarason. “I am positive that the new challenges Eric will face as partner will only drive him to continue to build upon his success.”
Murray practices in the areas of product liability, insurance coverage and bad faith, employment, and commercial litigation. Her clients include large, multinational manufacturers and insurance companies, public entities, and smaller, local businesses. In Murray's diverse practice, she has defended manufacturers against product liability claims in the automotive, tire, pharmaceutical and electronics industries, while also assisting insurance industry clients in matters involving coverage and bad faith claims. She also represents employers facing employment-related claims, and enjoys providing training and guidance to employers so that employment-related claims can be minimized.
Messersmith focuses her practice in the areas of insurance coverage and bad faith. Messersmith also handles appellate matters as part of her practice, as well as the defense of casualty claims.
“Sally and Candy consistently demonstrate the drive, determination and strategic focus necessary to succeed in law,” said Managing Partner Frank Sheppard. “Their promotion to partner will further enhance each person’s ability to serve our clients.”
McAliley graduated, magna cum laude, in 1996 from Florida Atlantic University with a Bachelors Degree in Accounting. In 1999, he earned his J.D., cum laude, from the University of Florida College of Law. While at law school, McAliley received the Emmanuel Sheppard & Condon Book Award in business organizations, the Professor Emeritus Mandell Glicksberg Book Award in property, and the University of Florida College of Law Book Award in both secured transactions and copyright law. McAliley also received the highest score on the Florida Bar exam in 1999.
McAliley is a member of The Florida Bar and the Dade County Bar Association, including the Young Lawyers Section.
Before joining the firm in 2000, Murray spent four years in a practice devoted to commercial litigation matters. Messersmith joined the firm in 2001 after clerking for Chief Justice Charles Wells of the Florida Supreme Court.
McAliley is based in Miami, and both Murray and Messersmith work out of the firm’s Orlando office.
