Examining How Employees Access Protections Under the FMLA and ADA: Common Pitfalls and Practical Solutions
RumbergerKirk partner Leonard Dietzen explored the intersection of the FMLA and ADA for Florida K–12 school Human Resources (HR) leaders during a presentation for the Florida Educational Negotiators General Meeting on September 26.
Through an interactive discussion, participants examined how employees properly trigger protections under each law, the respective rights and responsibilities of employees and employers, and the vital importance of clear documentation and communication between staff and HR.
During the presentation, Leonard also highlighted how strong compliance practices not only safeguard school districts legally, but also provide essential support for employees facing challenging circumstances. He also emphasized the need for consistent first-line supervisor training as a key factor in preventing avoidable compliance errors.
