Sara Burton focuses her practice on commercial and construction litigation, real estate and development, and business contract matters. With more than 20 years of legal experience, including serving as in-house counsel for a publicly traded construction company, she brings a business-focused perspective to complex disputes, commercial agreements and legal risk management.

In addition to her litigation practice, Sara advises businesses on the review, drafting and negotiation of commercial contracts and agreements. Working with corporate legal teams and business stakeholders, she helps clients evaluate contractual obligations, address potential areas of exposure and negotiate terms that support their operational and commercial objectives. Her experience in both litigation and corporate legal operations provides valuable perspective in identifying potential disputes before they arise and developing practical contractual protections.

As a senior in-house attorney for a publicly traded construction company for more than five years, Sara provided counsel on matters supporting complex commercial construction projects totaling more than $500 million in annual revenue. Her responsibilities spanned the full project life cycle, including contract negotiations, regulatory compliance, development approvals, project implementation and dispute management. She also advised on corporate governance, employment matters, mergers and acquisitions, and risk management, while developing contracting policies and companywide training initiatives.

Before her in-house role, Sara spent a decade with RumbergerKirk, developing extensive experience in complex civil and commercial litigation. Her practice included real estate transactions, toxic tort liability, product liability defense, commercial foreclosure prosecution, and construction defect and lien claims.

Drawing on her combined litigation and in-house experience, Sara provides practical counsel that accounts for both legal considerations and business priorities. She is also committed to mentoring new lawyers and supporting the firm’s summer associate program.
