Sara Burton focuses her practice on commercial and construction litigation, as well as real estate and development. She brings more than 20 years of legal experience and deep knowledge of the construction industry to provide strategic, results-driven counsel on commercial, real estate and construction matters.
As a senior in-house attorney for a publicly traded construction company for over five years, she provided counsel on a wide range of matters supporting complex commercial construction projects totaling over $500M in annual revenue. Her experience encompassed the full life cycle of major construction projects, from initial contract negotiations and drafting to navigating complex regulations and development approvals to project implementation and dispute management. She advised on corporate governance, risk management, regulatory compliance, employment law, litigation, and mergers and acquisitions. She also negotiated and drafted complex commercial agreements, developed contracting policies, and implemented companywide training on risk mitigation. Sara’s experience guiding a business through complex operational and legal challenges offers clients a unique advantage beyond litigation.
Prior to her in-house role, Sara spent a decade with RumbergerKirk, where she developed extensive experience in complex civil and commercial litigation. Her practice included real estate transactions, toxic tort liability, product liability defense, commercial foreclosure prosecution, and construction defect and lien claims.
In addition to her litigation practice, Sara offers proactive counsel on critical business issues, from contract interpretation and negotiation to developing robust compliance programs, training programs and risk mitigation strategies. She also enjoys mentoring new lawyers and contributing to the firm’s summer associate program.
