Great Intentions for Work Assignments but not as Great at Pickleball

As we get closer to the deadline for the Summer Associate Writing Competition, the pace has definitely picked up, but in the best way. There’s a lot going on, but the momentum is exciting, and it’s been great to feel so engaged.

Loving it here!

We had our first workshop of the summer in which we practiced taking depositions. I went first and was pretty nervous, but once I got started, it turned into a conversation that felt surprisingly natural. Getting feedback from both the other summer associates and the attorneys was incredibly helpful. Everyone was constructive and supportive, which made the experience even more encouraging.

I’ve also started to get more exposure to areas of law that I’ve been especially interested. The attorneys have been intentional about including me in matters they know will interest me, even if it is only to observe. But, they still give me plenty of opportunities to explore different practice areas to refine my skills and interests.

Despite all the work, we still made the time for some fun outside of the office. I had the opportunity to put skills of a different kind to use when we went to play pickleball at the Pickle Pad here in Tallahassee. “Skills” might be a stretch, though. I may need to put in some hours practicing if I want to keep up with the rest of the office. Can I bill for that?
