The courtroom came to life for second graders at Avalon Elementary when RumbergerKirk’s paralegal Kathleen Kimball and associate Eric Watson stepped in to lead the “Big Bad Wolf vs. Curly Pig Mock Trial.”
In this engaging and educational program, students had the chance to explore the justice system in a way that was both fun and memorable. With Kathleen playing “Curly Pig” and Eric taking on the role of “Judge,” the trial gave young learners an early look at how legal proceedings unfold, from storytelling to decision-making.
This special event was part of a larger effort coordinated by the Orange County Bar Association’s Civic Engagement and Law Week Committee. Throughout Orange County Public Schools, attorneys and legal professionals are volunteering their time to bring the law to life for students of all ages.
Additional events were held at Frangus Elementary and West Creek Elementary with a final event planned for Shingle Creek Elementary in December. During the event at West Creek Elementary, RumbergerKirk paralegal Jamie Lightfoot joined the fun as Curly Pig and Kathleen took on the role as Wolf’s attorney.
The OCBA’s ABA award-winning Law Week program has become a cornerstone of civic education in Central Florida. By spanning several months of activities, the program not only recognizes outstanding citizens in the community but also highlights the OCBA’s dedication to civic engagement, community service, and the promotion of legal education across schools.
Through initiatives like the “Big Bad Wolf vs. Curly Pig Mock Trial,” students gain valuable exposure to the legal system while sparking curiosity about fairness, responsibility, and even future careers in the law.
