Partner Leonard Dietzen

Employment and labor attorney Leonard Dietzen talks with the Orlando Business Journal about some of the battles workers in Florida may face if they want to form a union. He mentions that employees in Florida may be slower than those in some states to form unions because the state of Florida is service-oriented, which presents challenges for organizing when employees don’t stay at any one company for long.

“I think this economy and this particular [federal] administration, it’s going to be hard to find a unique reason to unionize, so it has to be a specific industry that may have an issue with insurance,” explains Dietzen. “I don’t think it’s wages, because we can’t find employees, [which would drive up salaries]. It has to be a unique issue that you save more [money] by paying into the union.”

Throughout the article Dietzen outlines various hurdles to unionizing in Florida and where unionization efforts may be more active.
