When I saw a rainbow outside of my office window on Tuesday morning, I knew it would be a good week. At the beginning of the week, the summer associates attended a deposition workshop where each of us took turns leading a mock deposition with a witness. We all came prepared with questions to ask the witness and we each received individual feedback. Everyone did amazing! I was surprised at how prepared everyone was since none of us had ever deposed anyone before. It was so cool to conduct a deposition and I learned a lot in the process.
Every Thursday in Miami, the firm hosts a luncheon for the attorneys where an associate prepares and presents two case briefs to those who attend. This week was my turn, and I was extremely nervous. Overall, the presentation went well, and I am proud of myself for overcoming my nerves and presenting. I think the more I present, the better I will get at public speaking and calming my nerves.
At the end of the week, Serena and I watched partner Scott Sarason depose an expert witness. This was something I was very excited for, as I have never seen an expert witness deposition. The deposition lasted from around 9:00 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., and it was intriguing to observe. It was honestly another amazing learning experience, especially since I recognized some of the tactics Scott used in his deposition from our deposition workshop earlier in the week.
Overall, it was another great week filled with lots of learning!
