Drafted My First Motion

Week 1

This past week was filled with fun events, lots of learning, and Miami thunderstorms. On Tuesday, Serena and I went to a Pro-bono event conducted by Dade Legal Aid. The event had food, drinks, and included a conversation led by the Honorable Judge Huck. It was such a motivating and inspiring event, and it was nice to see other Miami summer associates from all different firms. Some of my FIU Law classmates were there, so it was great to catch up with them and hear about their experiences so far this summer. On Wednesday, the fun continued as Serena and I, along with the other associates in the Miami office, walked over to American Social for happy hour.

While last week consisted of fun events, I also completed my first writing assignment, a Motion to Compel, and I feel very proud of myself. I also had the opportunity to attend two depositions with partner Scott Sarason. I learned a lot from observing the depositions and cannot wait to attend more. It is encouraging to see how every attorney has their own style, and I feel like the best way to figure out my own style is by observing others and taking bits and pieces of moments I find impactful.

The week ended with a summer party, a firm tradition, at partner Melissa Softness’s house. Many of the partners and associates attended and it was great to see everyone outside of the office. Overall, it was an amazing week!
