Week 4
Great BBQ and cool cars.

Week four at Rumberger brought the perfect mix of new challenges, mentorship, and fun highlights!

Monday started with an early morning drive to Ocala with partner Steve Klein for a deposition in a product liability case. It was a great opportunity to watch effective advocacy up close and in person. The drive there and back was a great chance to talk to Steve all about the interesting cases he has litigated and the importance of honing your advocacy skills. Afterward, Steve took Sam and I to lunch at Thrive Cocktail Lounge & Eatery in downtown Orlando. The ambience and conversations were fantastic, but the blackberry, honey, and brie cheese slider I had is still on my mind!

On Wednesday, I had the chance to attend my second attorney luncheon with presentations by associate Hannah Steele and partner Jennifer Smith Thomas. Their presentations were insightful and practical, and I am definitely taking notes for my upcoming presentation.

Friday was a busy but rewarding day. Sam and I had the opportunity to observe associate Alex Melvin take part in a mediation. Although I saw part of a mediation two weeks ago, it was nice to see a mediation conclude, and the creative tactics Alex used to reach the most favorable results for his client.

That afternoon, the firm hosted a quick ice cream social, a welcome break from motion writing and a great way to catch up with the attorneys and staff who have been busy this time of year!

Speaking of motion writing, this Friday marked the deadline for our Summer Associate Writing Competition. After many hours of reading case law, outlining, drafting, re-writing, and editing, sending the motion at last was such a relief. I am looking forward to hearing who won the competition and receiving feedback at the end of the summer!

The week wrapped up on a high note with the firm’s annual attorney BBQ on Saturday afternoon hosted by Steve Klein and his partner Tara. Beyond the great food and conversation, their antique car collection was great to see, especially the stunning purple ‘Cuda. Events like these are a reminder of how incredible Rumberger’s firm culture is, and how lucky I feel to be part of it this summer!
