Bulldog or Bully? Incivility or Zealous Advocacy?

Partner Richard Greenberg joined a panel discussion at the Association of Professional Responsibility Lawyers (APRL) Mid-Year Meeting on Friday, February 2, 2024.

The panel considered the question, “Can a lawyer be a bulldog without being a bully?” They addressed whether civility and zealous advocacy are incompatible and if rudeness during judicial proceedings is more appropriately dealt with by the presiding judge or by bar disciplinary authorities. In addition, they discussed some recent examples of incivility and how some jurisdictions are trying to deal with the problem.
