Expert: Rise in Court Filings After Florida Tort Law Reform Not Expected to Last

RumbergerKirk partners Mike Holt and Justin Guido discuss the changes to Florida’s tort laws that resulted in a temporary uptick in local civil case filings in an article published by the Orlando Business Journal on April 10, 2023. Holt and Guido discuss what changes the law includes as well as provide information about the recent increase in cases in many local civil courts and how a “barrage” of lawsuits was expected prior to the signing of the bill.

“Plaintiff’s attorneys raced to beat the clock by hastily filing on pre-lawsuits they otherwise might have resolved outside the court system,” Guido explains. “Many, if not most, of these filings could still resolve well before service of process.”
