First Amendment Wheel Doesn’t Stop Spinning: What School Boards Need to Know

Recent U.S. Supreme Court terms have seen major changes to First Amendment jurisprudence. The Court has reinterpreted the Establishment Clause, broadened the Free Exercise Clause, and reaffirmed the protections granted by the Free Speech Clause. With the heightened national focus on education, school board members and those who work with them need to be aware of what these decisions mean, and how boards should structure their policies to make sure they are not running afoul of the First Amendment.

Jeffrey Grosholz presented key issues school boards should know about during two presentations at the Inaugural Consortium of State School Boards Associations Conference at the Tampa Convention Center.
