More Than Numbers: Margaret Herod’s 25-Year Impact on RumbergerKirk

Over the past 25 years, Margaret Herod has built a remarkable career at RumbergerKirk, evolving into a steady, trusted leader who helps guide the firm’s financial operations and continued success. As Chief Financial Officer, Margaret’s impact extends far beyond numbers, shaped by her leadership, dedication and deep commitment to the people she works alongside every day.
Margaret’s journey began with a unique perspective. She was exposed to the legal industry through a previous connection and was ultimately hired after a referral to RumbergerKirk.
What started as an opportunity quickly evolved into a meaningful career. Over the years, her role has grown significantly, allowing her to take on greater responsibility and make an even stronger contribution to the firm’s success.
Among her most memorable moments are the high-pressure fiscal year-end closings, a challenge she and her team meet head-on each year. “It’s very stressful,” Margaret shared, “but it feels really good when the Accounting team pops the cork on the champagne bottle at the close of business on January 31.” That sense of accomplishment reflects not only the work itself, but the teamwork behind it.
Margaret is quick to credit the people around her as the most rewarding part of her career. “The Accounting team is the nicest, most helpful group of people you could meet,” she said. “I am so grateful for their dedication, loyalty and hard work. It is a privilege to work with them.” She also points to the influence of mentors and colleagues who helped shape her professional growth, particularly Lynn Wolfe, whose high standards and guidance left a lasting impression, and firm leadership, who empowered her with both responsibility and a voice.

Outside the office, Margaret enjoys traveling, spending time with family, reading and staying active, bringing the same energy and enthusiasm to her personal life as she does to her work.
Reflecting on her 25-year milestone, Margaret describes it as both surprising and deeply meaningful. “I cannot believe how fast 25 years have gone by,” she said. “It has been a privilege to work with such talented professionals. I’m grateful to be part of RumbergerKirk’s success and for the personal and professional growth along the way.”
As she looks ahead to retirement later this year, Margaret remains focused on ensuring a smooth transition and setting her team up for continued success.
Her advice to those just joining the firm: “Take the time to get to know your colleagues. When you understand their perspectives, you work better as a team, and it makes the experience more enjoyable along the way.”
Her legacy at RumbergerKirk will be defined not only by her expertise, but by the relationships she has built and the lasting impact she has made across the firm.
