More Than Words: Annette Hurst Reflects on 30 Years with RumbergerKirk
For three decades, Annette Hurst has played an important role behind the scenes at RumbergerKirk, supporting attorneys and colleagues as a word processor and translator. While her responsibilities have evolved over the years, one thing has remained constant: the people are what have made her time at the firm so meaningful.
Annette credits the “amazing co-workers and management team” with making RumbergerKirk a place where she has wanted to build her career. Over time, she has become increasingly involved in translation work for attorneys, a responsibility that has added a new dimension to her role.
“I enjoy the challenge,” Annette said of translating, which has given her another way to use her skills while supporting attorneys and their clients.
But when Annette reflects on three decades with the firm, it’s not a particular assignment or professional achievement that stands out. It’s the care, understanding and support she has received from the people around her.
That support became especially meaningful after Annette suffered an accident last year and began what has been an ongoing recovery. During that time, colleagues, attorneys and members of management have reached out with care packages, notes, emails and words of encouragement.
“The support and understanding I have received from the firm has been amazing and overwhelming at times,” Annette shared. “Whenever I receive a care package or even just a little note or email from one of my co-workers, friends, attorneys or management, it always brings a smile to my face.”
For Annette, those gestures represent the relationships she has built over 30 years and the sense of community that has kept her connected to the firm. Even during her recovery, her work has remained an important part of her life.
“Working has kept me going,” she said.
As Annette celebrates her 30-year milestone, her story is a reminder that a career measured in decades is about more than the work itself. It’s also about the people who become friends, the relationships built along the way and the support that matters most when it’s needed.
