Associate College: How to Write Case Evaluations

Each month, RumbergerKirk’s associates come together to hear from partners on a wide variety of topics as part of their overall professional development. Earlier this week, partner Carie Hall talked offered guidance on writing case evaluations and Tampa associate Connor Smedberg shared these notes.

  • A case is always better when everyone is communicating about it.
  • Any person should be able to pick up the report and know exactly what has happened and where the case is currently at in the process.
  • These reports are all about communicating with the client, so don’t be afraid to let them know any issues that may occur.
  • The client should be able to rely on the reports being accurate and reliable.
  • Be adaptable to the client’s needs and keep in mind that how one client likes to view the information may not be how another client does.
  • These reports are just as much for the attorney as they are for the client. It is a great time to review your case as a whole and decide what needs to be done.
