Breaking the Glass Ceiling: Advancement, Self-Advocacy and Resilience

During the Florida Society of Association Executives (FSAE) Women’s Summit 2024, RumbergerKirk employment attorney Nicole Smith participated in a panel discussion focused on “Breaking the Glass Ceiling.”

Individuals may encounter barriers in the workplace due to gender biases, societal expectations, and stereotypes. These challenges include navigating gender disparities, addressing work-life balance concerns, confronting wage gaps, and contending with a scarcity of diverse role models in senior positions. Moreover, imposter syndrome, a common experience for many professionals, can exacerbate these challenges by fostering feelings of inadequacy and the need to continually prove one’s worth. In this discussion, we explore the existence of these challenges and delve into strategies to overcome them.

How can individuals, regardless of gender, strive to break through these barriers? What approaches can be employed to combat imposter syndrome, especially in environments where gender imbalances persist? Furthermore, we’ll identify and share best practices that promote the advancement of all individuals in the workplace, fostering a more inclusive and equitable professional landscape.
