Communicating in Your Organization

Communicating in Your Organization

Linda Bond Edwards spoke with participants in the Jim Moran Institute for Global Entrepreneurship Small Business Executive Program about “Communicating in Your Organization” on June 14, 2022. She was the last speaker in the program series that is presented over four months.

“Words are important,” reminded Linda “but body language and tone of voice are also important.” She also emphasized that connecting with employees through common interests such as sports, hobbies, children’s activities, etc., allows for easier communication.

In demonstrating that actions and words have to match, Linda reminded participants that soberly delivering news that business had not been good and nobody was receiving a raise probably should not be delivered after driving up in a brand new Mercedes. “When communication unpleasant news to employees, be truthful, specific and clear about expectations,” she said.

A final takeaway is that she stressed the importance of communicating, reinforcing and demonstrating organizational vision.

The Small Business Executive Program at the Jim Moran Institute for Global Entrepreneurship is ideal for CEOs, entrepreneurs, business owners and presidents of small businesses. Through learning the Business Model Canvas, graduates emerge as stronger leaders who are ready to capitalize on business opportunities, implement best practice management, and turn challenges into strategic advantage.
