Efforts to Protect Florida’s Environment Praised in Orlando Sentinel Column

Politicians wake up on environmental issues
Last week — when most Florida politicos were still buzzing about the guilty plea of former GOP party boss Jim Greer — some of the state’s biggest names were throwing a party.
It took place on the 14th floor of a stately law firm in downtown Orlando where elevators delivered attendees to a lobby with an open bar on one side and a gourmet-grilled-cheese station on the other. (Bacon and sautéed onions were preferred toppings.) Attendees came at the invitation of a host committee that included the likes of Bill Nelson, Bill McCollum, Charlie Crist, Alex Sink, Jeff Atwater, Buddy MacKay and dozens more.
Though the atmosphere was celebratory, the cause was serious: the environment.
In that regard, it was also unusual.
