Rebecca Beers joined fellow local bar leaders from across Alabama for a panel discussion during the Alabama State Bar Annual Meeting on July 17.

The discussion was especially significant because the current presidents of the Birmingham, Huntsville, Mobile, Montgomery and Tuscaloosa bar associations are all women, reflecting the growing impact of women in leadership throughout Alabama’s legal profession. The panel also coincided with the installation of the new president of the Alabama State Bar, Jana Russell Garner.

Presented by the Alabama State Bar Women’s Section, “The Complete Lawyer: Practice Success, Bar Leadership, and Work-Life Balance” explored how attorneys can build successful legal careers while leading their organizations, serving their communities and maintaining balance in a demanding profession.

Beers joined fellow panelists Mary Margaret Bailey, Kayla Griffin, Aigner Kolom and Bree Wilbourn for a candid discussion moderated by ASB Women’s Section President Felicia Long. Together, they shared perspectives on effective leadership, professional development and sustaining long-term success in the legal profession, while highlighting the importance of well-being, mentorship and service to the legal community.

During the discussion, Beers reflected on viewing a legal career as a series of seasons, encouraging attorneys to embrace slower periods as opportunities to invest in both their personal and professional growth. She also emphasized the lasting value of community and bar service, noting that leadership roles outside the office foster meaningful relationships, strengthen leadership skills, and prepare attorneys to seize future opportunities, even during the most demanding phases of their careers.

Beers currently serves as president of the Birmingham Bar Association and remains an active leader within Alabama’s legal community. Through her service and professional experience, she is committed to advancing the profession while supporting the next generation of attorneys. The Alabama State Bar Annual Meeting brought together attorneys and judges from across the state for continuing legal education, networking, and leadership programming focused on the evolving practice of law.
