Risk & Insurance Talks with Chase Hattaway about Sexual Assault Education and Prevention on College Campuses

Sexual Assault on Campus: Risk Management After Weinstein and #MeToo

In an article published by Risk & Insurance on September 12, Chase Hattaway discusses steps to prevent sexual violence on campus. He explains that providing education and training to students about the meaning of consent can be effective in preventing sexual assaults.

“This training, however, must be given in an effective manner and should be part of a larger campaign over an extended period of time,” states Hattaway. “Additionally, institutions should engage the entire campus in preventing sexual assaults and responding appropriately after an assault occurs.”

He stresses that preventing sexual assaults should not be the job of the campus administration alone. Instead, administrations should do their part to ensure that students, faculty and staff are empowered to do their part to prevent sexual assaults.
