RumbergerKirk hosted a series of virtual workshops for Florida A&M University (FAMU) College of Law students during the 2020-2021 academic year. The last in a series of five workshops focused on offering students real-world perspective and advice for taking depositions. Partners Skip Eubanks and Darryl Gavin reviewed best practices with the students.

Key points they addressed included:

1. Prepare: Draft an outline, prepare a strategy and understand your goals for the deposition before you begin.
2. Listen: Listen to the witness’ answers so you are ready for your next move.
3. Be in control and be professional: Do not lose your temper.  Be a strong reflection of yourself, your firm and your client.
