Finishing strong and looking ahead

Week 6

This week was a shorter one with the Fourth of July holiday, but it was still a productive few days.

On Monday, I attended the firm’s mock trial introduction with my mentor, Renee Duffy. Led by Devin Topper, the session provided a great overview of the competition and what to expect in the weeks ahead. I’m looking forward to preparing for mock trial and continuing to develop my litigation skills through the experience. Afterward, I worked on a letter to accompany a motion and proposed order I had previously drafted before spending the rest of the day working on my Daubert motion for the Summer Associate Program writing competition.

On Tuesday, I spent the first half of the day with Renee attending a plaintiff’s deposition. It was a valuable opportunity to observe the deposition process in person and see another stage of litigation firsthand. After returning to the office, I prepared a deposition summary for the client, finalized revisions to an initial client evaluation letter based on attorney feedback, and attended the firm’s weekly attorney meeting. We had planned a summer associate outing to Busch Gardens that evening, but the weather had other plans, and the event was rescheduled.

I dedicated Wednesday to completing my Daubert motion for the Summer Associate Program writing competition. It was rewarding to bring the project to the finish line after several days of researching, drafting, and revising. I learned a great deal throughout the process and look forward to receiving feedback from the attorneys reviewing our submissions.

On Thursday, I shifted my focus back to legal research and writing. I worked on two research memoranda, one addressing mediation and arbitration and another examining the Florida Rules of Civil Procedure and how Florida courts have interpreted specific procedural rules through case law.

With Friday off for the holiday, it was nice to recharge before another busy week ahead. I’m looking forward to continuing to build on everything I’ve learned so far this summer.
