This week was the perfect way to conclude my time at the firm, combining meaningful legal work with the opportunity to reflect on everything I learned throughout the Summer Associate Program.
On Sunday, I traveled to Orlando to meet the other summer associates, my mock trial partner, Parker Bucken, and attorney Devin Topper. Parker and I spent the afternoon preparing for the mock trial, refining our arguments and making final adjustments before stepping into the courtroom the next morning.
Monday was undoubtedly the highlight of the week. After arriving at the office early, we headed to the courthouse, where Parker and I participated in the morning mock trial. As my first mock trial, it was an incredible experience and the perfect culmination of everything I had been working toward over the past 10 weeks.
Applying the skills I developed throughout the summer in a courtroom setting was both rewarding and memorable. Judge Eric H. DuBois provided thoughtful, constructive feedback that will continue to shape my advocacy skills as I move forward. After the competition, we watched the afternoon trial before returning to the Orlando office for a happy hour and dinner with attorneys, staff and fellow summer associates to celebrate the conclusion of the program.
Back in the Tampa office, I shifted my focus to completing several final assignments. I finalized a memorandum, attended mediations with partner Rob Blank and my mentor, Renee Duffy, and began researching tort reform orders. Throughout the week, I also participated in a baby shower celebrating paralegal Jaimi Dutkowsky and joined colleagues for a firm happy hour and dinner at Ulele, creating even more opportunities to connect with the people who made this experience so meaningful.
On Friday, I wrapped up my summer by participating in one final case strategy roundtable with Rob and Renee on a matter I had been involved with throughout the program. I also completed my final assignment and enjoyed lunch with Renee and attorneys Matt Brunswick, Blake Bonsack and Seth Roebuck before saying goodbye.
Looking back, this summer exceeded every expectation I had. I’m incredibly grateful for the mentorship, meaningful work and friendships that made these past 10 weeks so memorable. The experiences I’ve gained have strengthened my confidence, sharpened my advocacy skills and reinforced my excitement for a career in litigation.
