Week six brought some of the most meaningful experiences of the summer so far.
This week, I submitted my Daubert motion for the Summer Associate Program’s motion writing competition. After several weeks of research, analysis, and writing, getting it across the finish line was incredibly rewarding.
I also had the opportunity to attend a hearing on a motion to dismiss, which provided another opportunity to see how oral arguments unfold in the courtroom and how judges engage with counsel in real time.
The standout experience for me was attending a mediation alongside a partner. What made the mediation especially meaningful was being included in the process, not just as an observer, but as a participant. The partner walked me through their approach and asked for my input throughout the negotiations. It was an invaluable opportunity and one I never expected to have this early in my legal career.
To close out the week, I presented at the Miami Attorneys Lunch on hearsay exceptions and trial strategy. Breaking down the Rules of Evidence and discussing how attorneys use them effectively at trial was a great exercise in both legal analysis and communication. Presenting to experienced attorneys challenged me to know the material thoroughly and communicate it with confidence. It was a rewarding way to wrap up the week and left me feeling prepared for the final stretch of the summer.
