Arguments, Research and Good Food

Week 7

Week seven brought another well-rounded mix of experiences and opportunities to continue building my litigation skills. One highlight of the week was attending the deposition of an expert witness, which offered a different perspective from the depositions I observed earlier this summer. Seeing how attorneys examined the expert and challenged both their opinions and methodology added another layer to my understanding of how cases are built and contested.

I also prepared for and argued the Daubert motion I submitted for the summer associate writing competition before a partner. It was a rewarding opportunity to put my research and writing to the test while defending my arguments through oral advocacy.

On a separate matter, I drafted a response opposing a motion to compel statutory fees. What made the assignment especially engaging was the need to develop a creative legal argument for an issue that didn’t lend itself to a conventional approach. In addition, I contributed to trial preparation by completing a research assignment for an upcoming trial. It provided another glimpse into the level of strategy, coordination and attention to detail that goes into getting a case ready for the courtroom.

To wrap up the week, the Miami office attended a private cooking class. It was a great opportunity to unwind, connect with colleagues outside the office and enjoy time together beyond our day-to-day work.
