Leonard Dietzen Provides an Overview of Florida Public Records Law for the Florida Association of City Clerks

On Tuesday, June 12, Leonard Dietzen provided an in-depth overview of Florida public records law from an attorney’s perspective during the 2018 Florida Association of City Clerks (FACC) Summer Conference and Academy. Dietzen opened the presentation reminding participants that, “The business of the public should be conducted transparently so that the public can see what is being done and how.”

Key points addressed during the presentation included:

  • What constitutes a public record?
  • Procedures on how to respond properly to a public records request
  • Tips on avoiding expensive public records lawsuits
  • Recent developments in the Legislature and the Courts

During the question and answer session, participants were able to address the ever-changing issues that arise in each municipality.
