Rumberger Packs Up Holiday Cheer for Overseas Troops

For the 6th consecutive year, the RK family has come together to ship Christmas care packages to troops overseas. This year, the firm filled 80 boxes destined for 11 active military units in Afghanistan, Kuwait, Africa and Cuba. Each box is filled with daily necessities such as socks, toothpaste, razors and shaving cream and special snacks, cookies and Christmas treats. They also include magazines, books or small games or cards.

“It’s gratifying to be able to let these brave men and women know we are thinking about them and thankful for the sacrifice they are making to keep us safe, especially at this time of year,” said Lisa Griffin, a legal assistant in the firm’s Orlando office. The program began when Lisa’s son joined the Marines and was deployed to Iraq. “We learned that many deployed service people lack a good support system at home and receive little or no mail.  Also, many service people are supporting families back home and can use the “extras” provided in the boxes, such as socks, razors and other personal care items that would otherwise have to be purchased,” explained Lisa.

Each of the firm’s five offices participated in the shipment, either sending boxes of their own or sending items and donations to include in the Orlando shipment. In addition, D4 LLC, Mateer Harbert, Milestone Reporting and Orange Legal provided donations and support on “packing day.” The next troop shipment is planned for early February so that the boxes will arrive in time for Valentine’s Day.
