American Apparel settled an ADA claim for $60,000 and agreed to spend $20,000 of the settlement amount to sponsor two seminars on employee's rights and responsibilities under the ADA. American Apparel was charged by EEOC for violating the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) when it fired a garment worker while he was on medical leave for a disability. Materials from the claim provide that the employee returned to work after medical leave for chemotherapy and the company terminated him because it no longer had a position for him.
