Rumberger Spreads Holiday Cheer
During its annual Holiday Troop Shipment, RumbergerKirk sent nearly 90 care packages to 11 military units, ensuring that US military personnel stationed around the world will enjoy good wishes during the 2013 Holiday Season. For many of these brave men and women, just knowing that people back home appreciate their sacrifices serving our country makes being away during the holidays just a little bit easier. “Over the years, the firm has received many messages of thanks. Receiving a care package with simple daily supplies and special holiday decorations helps to create a bright spot in the lives of these wonderful men and women,” said Lisa Griffin, a legal assistant in the firm’s Orlando office. “Knowing that we continue to think about them and take care to fill the occasional special request helps to soften their sadness at being away from home and loved ones.” Lisa has coordinated the quarterly shipments from the Orlando office since the project’s inception.
“This year’s shipment was especially special, thanks to all the people who pitched in,” said Lisa. The program, which began in 2009, has steadily grown to include shipments from all five RK offices and participation by employees from other organizations and caring individuals.
- Rumberger employees in Birmingham, Miami, Orlando, Tallahassee and Tampa donated items to fill the boxes and gave cash donations to offset mailing costs and purchase special items.
- Folks from Orange Legal, a court reporting and legal support agency, held a casual for a cause day for the troops and brought a wagon full of goodies. They joined Rumberger staff to make sure all the boxes were packed and ready for shipment.
- Riesdorph Reporting, a court reporting firm based in Tampa, sent mint candies and offered a helping hand to prepare the boxes for shipment.
- Members of the Central Florida Paralegal Association helped gather donations.
- Gene Feher, who delivers snacks for purchase by Rumberger employees throughout the year, dropped off several boxes of chips.
- Mateer Harbert, a law firm with offices in Orlando and Ocala, provided snacks and other goodies.
- The seniors and employees of the Sanford Recreational Department sent cards filled with good wishes and heartfelt thanks.
Boxes, sent to men and women in all branches of the military, included holiday cards with words of thanks and encouragement, hand warmers, hot chocolate and holiday decorations in addition to the regular staples of socks, hygiene products, magazines and snacks. . Many of the people who receive the boxes share with their buddies and occasionally ask Rumberger to add the name of a person who never receives mail from home, or a unit that is stationed at a remote outpost to the list of recipients.
