This week was filled with hands-on learning, collaboration and preparation as I balanced litigation assignments with the final push toward mock trial.
The week began with a direct and cross-examination workshop that offered practical insight into trial advocacy. Although I have studied evidence in law school, the workshop helped me better understand the strategic side of making—and sometimes withholding—objections during trial. Later that day, we attended an Associate College lunch with Josh Lerner, who shared his experiences managing trials and balancing a busy caseload, offering valuable perspective on life as a practicing litigator.
As the week progressed, my attention shifted toward preparing for the upcoming mock trial while continuing to manage new assignments. Juggling both responsibilities challenged my time management skills and reinforced the importance of staying organized when priorities compete. We also enjoyed a Taco Tuesday happy hour at Solita’s, which provided a chance to connect with fellow summer associates outside the office.
On Wednesday, I began rehearsing with my mock trial partner, Blake Garcia. Our Zoom practice sessions gave us the opportunity to test strategies, refine our arguments and strengthen our presentation as a team. I also continued working on one of my favorite federal court matters, where I drafted arguments for an amended complaint. It was rewarding to contribute to an active case while preparing for mock trial.
Thursday started with a strategy session alongside my mentor, Taylor Koshak, who helped me work through questions that arose during our trial preparation. Afterward, Blake and I reworked portions of our case to strengthen our overall presentation based on that feedback.
I wrapped up the week by finalizing assignments and continuing to prepare for mock trial. I also had lunch with one of my mentors, Judge Keith White of Florida’s Sixth District Court of Appeal, whose advice and perspective made a lasting impression.
As mock trial approaches, I still feel a few nerves, but they are outweighed by confidence. Looking back over the summer, I’m grateful for the mentorship, collaboration and practical experience that have prepared me for this next challenge.
