Learning Beyond the Classroom

Week 4

This was my busiest week so far and it provided me the opportunity to work on a wide variety of assignments. I drafted several more dispositive motions and am excited to see how the court rules.

I also look forward to the attorney luncheons because it gives me the chance to learn about a new topic and hear from attorneys across the firm. During this week’s attorney luncheon, Judge Brian Sandor and Judge Celia Thacker Dorn were invited to talk with us. They discussed several topics, including docket loads, the Florida Supreme Court’s new certification rule related to the use of artificial intelligence and questions surrounding the trial docket timelines implemented in 2024. We ended the day celebrating June birthdays and anniversaries in the kitchen with cake.

During the Associate College lunch on Thursday, partner Damien Orato led a trial prep seminar. It is always helpful to hear experienced attorneys share their perspectives on trial issues that often arise and how they approach them in practice.

We ended the day with the summer associate Topgolf outing. While I am not much of a golfer yet, it is still a work in progress, it was a fun event and a great opportunity to spend time with partners and associates outside the office.

At the end of the week, I coordinated with a few partners to attend upcoming in-person events. I am eager to observe inspections, interviews and other aspects of litigation firsthand and continue learning from attorneys in real-world settings. This is one of the most valuable aspects of the Summer Associate Program at RumbergerKirk because it provides a practical perspective on the practice of law that you cannot learn in the classroom.
