This week was filled with meaningful learning experiences, professional growth and moments that reminded me just how much I’ve learned throughout the summer.
We kicked off the week with a seminar on direct and cross-examinations, which provided practical guidance on structuring an effective examination, developing a clear line of questioning and responding to the challenges that can arise when working with witnesses. The session was especially valuable as we continue preparing for the upcoming mock trial, and I’m looking forward to applying what I learned during next week’s competition.
On Tuesday, I attended another hearing with Supatra Cooper on a case I have worked on throughout the summer. Being involved with the matter over an extended period and then seeing it result in a favorable outcome for our client was incredibly rewarding. Watching how the research and assignments I completed contributed to the overall case strategy reinforced how meaningful it is to see your work make a difference.
Wednesday brought another memorable experience. During the attorney luncheon, we heard about several interesting cases attorneys at the firm have handled. One, in particular, stood out because of the complex and emotional issues involved. Hearing how the attorney navigated those challenges while continuing to advocate effectively for the client provided valuable insight into the judgment and professionalism required in litigation.
That evening, I attended the Orange County Bar Association’s Law Clerks Reception. The event was a true full-circle moment. I attended the reception on my own last year, where I first met several RumbergerKirk attorneys. Returning this year as a member of the firm’s Summer Associate Program gave me the opportunity to reflect on how much has changed in just one year. It also made me even more excited about what the future may hold. Reconnecting with classmates, attorneys and judges while representing the firm made the evening meaningful.
I wrapped up the week with lunch alongside partners Sara Kallop and Samantha Duke, who shared thoughtful advice about developing an argument style that feels both authentic and effective as I prepare for the mock trial.
As the Summer Associate Program approaches its conclusion, I’m excited to continue building on everything I’ve learned, strengthen my advocacy skills and put those lessons into practice during mock trial.
