Watching Litigation Come to Life

Week 5

This week at RumbergerKirk was both busy and rewarding. Alongside wrapping up several research projects, I had the opportunity to observe different stages of the litigation process and learn from some truly outstanding attorneys.

On Tuesday, I attended my first inspection with Steve Klein. It was fascinating to see just how detailed and methodical the process can be. Watching Steve work alongside the accident reconstruction team reinforced the importance of paying attention to even the smallest details, as every observation can play a significant role in building a case. Seeing that level of preparation and collaboration firsthand was an invaluable learning experience.

Wednesday brought my first mediation with my mentor, Hannah Clark, and I was incredibly impressed by her advocacy. She was exceptionally prepared, and her use of visual presentations helped communicate complex evidence in a clear and persuasive way. Equally inspiring was watching her build trust with the client while confidently advocating on their behalf. It was a great reminder that effective advocacy is rooted not only in preparation but also in communication and relationships.

On Thursday, I attended my first hearing with Supatra Cooper on a matter I had previously researched. It was especially rewarding to watch the work that happens behind the scenes come together in the courtroom. Supatra handled a challenging hearing with professionalism, poise and preparation, ultimately achieving a favorable outcome for the client. I also admired the compassion she showed throughout the proceeding while remaining a strong and effective advocate.

Experiencing an inspection, mediation, and hearing all in the same week reinforced just how much preparation, strategy, and teamwork go into every stage of litigation. I continue to be inspired by the talent, professionalism, and dedication of the attorneys at RumbergerKirk, and I am grateful for every opportunity to learn from them.

We wrapped up the week by traveling to Tampa to continue our opening and closing argument workshop series with Rob Blank. As we enter the final stages of the Summer Associate Program’s mock trial competition, I am excited to put everything I’ve learned into practice and continue growing as an advocate. I can’t wait to see what the coming weeks have in store.
