Between substantive legal work, professional development opportunities, and spending time with everyone outside the office, this was a great week all around!

The majority of my week was spent preparing for the Summer Associate Motion Competition. I reviewed depositions, researched case law, and started developing an outline for my argument. It has been exciting to work through the process of building a persuasive motion from the ground up. After spending the week preparing, I’m looking forward to finally getting started on the drafting process.
I also had the opportunity to work on a Motion for Protective Order for partner Crystal Valencia. This was my first time drafting this type of motion, which made the assignment especially interesting. I utilized recent case law to support an argument limiting the disclosure of our client’s proprietary information during discovery. One of the things I’ve appreciated most this summer is seeing how concepts from my Civil Procedure class play out in practice. Assignments like these are a great chance to build on the concepts I’ve learned in law school.
On Thursday, I attended an Associate College lunch with associates from across the firm. Partner Damien Orato gave a presentation on trial preparation, and I really enjoyed hearing practical insights from his courtroom experience. I was especially interested to learn about impeachment and rehabilitation techniques and jury selection strategies.
After work, the associates headed to Delilah for happy hour. It was great to unwind after a busy week, catch up with everyone, and enjoy some live music. These events have been some of my favorite parts of the summer because they’re a great opportunity to get to know everyone.
The week wrapped up with the annual summer associate party at partner Josh Lerner’s home. It was wonderful to spend time with everyone and meet many of their families. The evening was a lot of fun, and I’m grateful to Josh for hosting such a great event.
This week reinforced how much RumbergerKirk invests in its summer associates. From hands-on legal work to opportunities to build relationships throughout the firm, I’ve felt supported every step of the way.
