This week, my mock trial partner, Dylan, and I shifted our preparation into high gear as we got ready for next week’s competition. We spent hours talking through our case, testing different strategies and giving each other honest feedback. Working alongside Dylan has been one of the highlights of this experience. He’s an incredibly talented partner, and challenging each other’s arguments has made us both stronger advocates. Having someone to exchange ideas with has made the preparation process not only more productive but also more enjoyable.
Throughout the week, I also participated in coaching sessions with Scott Sarason, Mike Holt, Katherine Becerra and Nick Aguirre. Each took the time to share thoughtful advice and practical techniques that I could immediately apply. One of my biggest goals was refining my opening statement. After several rounds of revisions and feedback, I finished the week with an opening that felt both persuasive and authentic to the story we want to tell.
As the mock trial draws closer, I’ve spent more than a few late nights at the office. While the long hours have been demanding, they’ve also been incredibly rewarding. I feel a healthy mix of excitement and nerves, but knowing how much preparation has gone into this competition gives me confidence heading into trial.
One of the most rewarding aspects of this experience is realizing how far I’ve come. Before this summer, I had never participated in a mock trial, and the idea of trying a case felt intimidating. After weeks of workshops, coaching sessions and hands-on training with experienced attorneys, I now feel prepared to step into the courtroom. Along the way, I’ve learned that successful litigation depends not only on strong advocacy, but also on preparation, teamwork and attention to detail.
As I wrapped up the week, Dylan and I focused on putting the finishing touches on our case before one final weekend of preparation. I’m excited to see our hard work come together and grateful for the mentorship and support that have made this experience so meaningful.
