After taking the Brightline to Orlando, I spent my first few days in the Orlando office for orientation. It was great to meet the other summer associates before we headed to our respective offices. Everyone in Orlando was incredibly welcoming and went out of their way to introduce themselves and make us feel at home.
While in Orlando, we enjoyed dinner at Sixty Vines with several attorneys who had previously completed the Summer Associate Program. Hearing about their experiences was both helpful and encouraging, and it made me even more excited for everything the summer has in store.
On Wednesday, I traveled back to Miami, eager to begin my first day in the office.
I hit the ground running on Thursday. After a tour of the firm, I was shown to my office, where I will be spending the summer. As a welcome gift, I found a beautiful succulent waiting on my desk. Stay tuned to see whether my succulent survives the summer alongside me.
Once I got settled in, I received an assignment from Anne Romero to draft a motion to consolidate. Since it was my first time working on that type of motion, I made sure to ask plenty of questions. I quickly learned that everyone at the firm is willing to take the time to help and provide guidance. It was reassuring to know I could comfortably reach out for assistance and that attorneys were happy to share their knowledge and experience.
To cap off the day, the firm hosted a happy hour to celebrate our arrival in the Miami office. It was a great opportunity to get to know everyone better and made me feel truly welcomed. Our conversations ranged from current cases and legal practice to dream vacation destinations, and I enjoyed getting to know my colleagues outside of work.
On Friday, I attended a welcome lunch at Negroni with Scott Sarason, Michael Holt, Katherine Becerra and Nick Aguirre. Over some excellent sushi, we discussed the potential impact of artificial intelligence on the practice of law. It was a fascinating conversation, and we all agreed that while AI is unlikely to replace attorneys, it has the potential to make legal professionals more efficient.
After a busy and eventful week, I left the office excited for what lies ahead. I am grateful for the opportunity to spend my summer at RumbergerKirk and look forward to everything the rest of the summer has in store.
